Anwar M. Johnson practices primarily in the areas of education, litigation, labor and employment law. Anwar has experience handling a variety of civil litigation matters, representing clients in state and federal courts in both Missouri and Illinois, and has negotiated several favorable settlements on behalf of his clients.
In addition to successfully defending and arguing on behalf of clients in many civil litigation proceedings, Anwar also has experience representing employers in wage and hour matters, unfair labor practice proceedings, and grievance/arbitration disputes. Recently, Anwar assisted a client in obtaining a favorable decision in an arbitration proceeding arising out of a dispute over interpretation of a collective bargaining agreement.
Anwar regularly advises school districts on matters related to reductions in force and recall, non-renewal of probationary teachers, dismissal of tenured teachers, dismissal of educational support personnel, and an assortment of other issues related to employee discipline. Anwar also has experience assisting school districts in complying with various state and federal laws, including the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
