Peter G. Yelkovac concentrates his practice on the representation of school districts and governmental entities. He also represents national medical care entities and providers with respect to employment matters and technology-related issues.
An experienced defense attorney, he has successfully litigated dozens of cases in federal and state courts. Pete regularly advises his clients on the legal parameters of freedom of expression. He has defeated several lawsuits that were brought against his clients under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. In addition, Pete has been at the forefront of addressing the legal ramifications of online social networking and the use of the Internet as a vehicle for defamation. Pete received his L.L.M. degree, an advanced law degree, from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, where he studied cutting-edge issues in the areas of personal privacy and the regulation of expression.
As a school lawyer, Pete serves as general counsel for dozens of school districts. He also regularly represents his clients in administrative proceedings and during investigations by federal and state agencies. Education-related associations, organizations, and institutions regularly Pete to deliver speeches and presentations on a variety of legal topics. Pete is a well-regarded speaker on the use and perils of social networking in the employment and education settings. Additionally, he has delivered several Missouri Bar-sponsored presentations to Missouri attorneys regarding legal issues in the respective areas of employment and education.
Pete is also a prolific author on legal topics. He writes a regular column on hot legal issues in the MoASBO journal for school business officials. He served as editor and co-author of the first edition of the Missouri Bar’s School Law Deskbook. His article on world trade law, focusing upon the European Union’s application of the Generalized System of Preferences, was recently published by a Sri Lankan law college.
